Johar or juar is the name of a type of hardwood-producing tree that belongs to the Fabaceae family (= Leguminosae, legumes). This tree, which is often planted as a roadside shade, is also known by similar names, such as juwar (Btw., Jw., Sd.), or johor (Mly.). In Java it is often also called Jati Wesi. In Sumatra, this tree is also called persuasion or dulang. In English this plant is called by several names such as black-wood cassia, Bombay blackwood, cassod tree, Siamese senna and others. Its scientific name, siamea, refers to its native land, namely Siam or Thailand.
